Our first trip to the Philippines, January 2011, staying at the Atlantis Resort in Puerto

Galera, Sabang Point. Weather and water temperatures a little cooler than expected.

The resort and the dive operation were great--the food was the best we have ever had

on a dive trip. In fact, as good as we have here in NYC.

The diving is varied, mostly reefs but some "muck" dives similar to Indonesia were the

most interesting to me. A good variety of sea-horses including the ever elusive Pygmy,

pipefish and dragonets amongst the unusual.  The rare Gurnard Lion fish with its

bright blue pectoral fins, finally found on my sixth attempt at the same dive-site,

Secret Bay--much to the relief of my boat-mates who no longer had to go back there

again.....

All in all, a worthwhile trip especially as we missed four major snowstorms back in

New York.  Reasonably easy to get to (by some standards). We spent three nights in

Manilla before transferring by bus to Batangas City, a short Jeepney ride to the

shore, a wooden ferry with outriggers to Sabang and then a walk along the beach to

get to the resort (aided by incredibly strong porters carrying all our luggage, gear

and cameras).
